I accidently got my dell mp3 player wet with water from my sink. At first nothing would work and you couldn’t turn it on. After a day though it could turn on and was playing but none of the buttons would work. Now the buttons start to work at random times after it’s been left on for a while but not consistently. I heard that putting rubbing alcohol on it in between the buttons would help. Will this work and what would recommend to fix it?

Try some cleaner degreaser available at The Source. Rubbing Alcohol is not the right alcohol, isopropyl is. Try not to get it wet next time!
