A while ago, when I plugged in my mp3 player, it showed up in my computer right away. But now my only option is to transfer files via windows media player. I have data on it, but there is no way to access it.

Try,
Right Click My Computer > Manage
Then click Disk Management
Then when you see horizontal bars, one called c:\ etc. find one that has the memory closest to your mp3 player, eg. 512mb, 20gb. Right click it, change drive letter. Change it to something like z or y. then close and start my computer again, and wait for it to install drivers and eventually it may come up.
Good Luck
