Meet the fishing cat. This feline from Asia is a lesser cat that loves the water and will actually swim to catch its prey. Big Cat Rescue supports the “Way Kambas” park in Sumatra which saves habitat for the tiger, which also is where the fishing cat lives. Thanks for watching!
What a beautiful cat. But then, ALL cats are gorgeous. THANKS to BCR for protecting and advocating for them.
Fishing Cat“z FTW x333
Fishing cats are very cute.
Perhaps there should be a humourous as well as educational cartoon (or movie) featuring a fishing cat character (if not already produced or in production) to bring more attention to this species of feline in order to keep it from extinction. With donations going toward the conservation and preservation of fishing cats. Just a thought.
oh cool thnx
No tigers and jaguars like the water too, other species like lion cross paths of water if they have to, but generally stay away from it, tigers on the other hand can swim up to 20 miles a day searching for prey/mate/territory!
so are they the only type of cat that likes water?
They’re cute!
Thanks, I’ll have to look that up
The leopard incident was written by a man named ‘Champion’ during Colonial times in India (Book named ‘jungle in sunlight and shadow’).
That’s a case of little and large
When was this supposed to have taken place?
The ‘meow’ he says at 2:15 is so cute! i love cats, any and all kinds and they need to survive.
I was in Sri Lanka recently.
A fishing Cat was captured and brought to the zoo after it had been attacking goats.
This is one powerful cat for its size.
Why it would go after such large land prey is a mystery
This animal is legendary for its ferocity. One supposedly fought off a leopard in India
That’s pretty scary to know, our fishing cats would rather hiss at you and escape back to the privacy of their den!
I read an article about a Russian couple having one along with their house cat, it looked pretty friendly with everybody, bathing in the bathtub, eating fresh fish and fowl.
Search engine:” fishing+cat+russia” and you’ll find it.
Oh, it’s good to hear that the breeding of these cats for the pet trade isn’t a problem where you are. Thanks for the info and thanks for watching our videos!
ah excuse but my English is much uncertain one: -) The rich persons and the circuses directly buy the felines from hunters and africans smugglers make who them to arrive through the Mediterranean (L’ Italy is rather near of North Africa). Unfortunately the traffics are in increase and the Police does not block them. Mine adored animals, instead, is all taken from circuses that wanted to be unravelled some or from private.
Where did you get your cats from? Is there breeders over there that breed for the “pet” trade like in america, if so that’s sad news to hear.
the phenomenon of the great cats as animals from company are diffusing themselves also here, in the Italy north (to the south has problems very more serious ehehe). In Italy the laws are much strict on this, while to Saint Marino it is possible to hold them in house under a special action of General Supremo, the head of the state. Thus I have decided to adopt some. It would appeal to me to hold also of the lions, but the space would not be sufficient
Oh right, no I’m not familiar with Saint Marino, do many people own big cats as “pets” in Italy this is a huge problem in the USA?
sure, even if not for mean of payment. They are in ” Saint Marino” (a small independent republic in Italy center you know it?), where the special laws concur to hold animals of the sort. The felines (with the exception of the cats
) are all states saved from Circuses or private Collections
The fishing cat is an endangered species, so they should only be held by accredited zoos or sanctuaries. Are you open to the public, so they can view your cats?
i live in Italy in a duty with a park of beyond 5 hectares, I adore the felines (I have 8 cats, 3 ocelot [6 when the female give birth the two kittens], 2 serval and 1 leopardo) and I asked myself if this animal, that it seems to be in danger of extintion, can be held in captivity
